Green light for latest phase of award-winning Smithfield development
The latest phase of Muse Developments’ award-winning Smithfield scheme has been granted planning consent by Manchester City Council.
The decision gives Muse the green light to deliver 77 new apartments which will provide a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bed units with associated parking, as well as over 6,000 sq ft of ground floor commercial space.
Still the largest single development site within the Northern Quarter, Smithfield continues to be at the forefront of Manchester’s regeneration. The scheme has already attracted many new businesses and residents to the Northern Quarter and continues to act as a catalyst for further investment.
Muse Developments is committed to bringing this next phase of development forward and is in the process of progressing funding approvals to enable a start on site later this year.
Wes Erlam, senior development surveyor at Muse Developments, said: “We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved at Smithfield over the last ten years which has paved the way for the revival of the Northern Quarter into one of the most creative and vibrant areas of Manchester city centre. We now look forward to delivering this next phase of development and enhancing this unique part of the city centre.”
Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, said: "The Northern Quarter is a key element of the regeneration of Manchester city centre and this scheme is further evidence that it remains a thriving residential and commercial location."
