The scheme will provide a substantially sized public open square and a series of new streets surrounded by retail and leisure space, a hotel, a new bus interchange, office space and new homes (including affordable units), delivered over a number of phases.
The first phase - an assisted living residential building and an 850-space multi-storey car park - has been completed and the second phase, a new health centre, is now under construction. The health centre will provide approximately 2,600 sqm of new space over four levels for the NHS.
One of the central planks to the success of the Muse approach to the development of Kimmerfields has been the involvement of stakeholders and the local community from a very early stage in the planning and development process. Through a combination of a dedicated community website, wide media coverage and on-going consultation activities, a large number of residents, community groups and other stakeholders have been involved in the formulation of Muse’s plans for this important gateway site and an extremely wide level of understanding and support for key elements of the Kimmerfields masterplan has been secured.
The successful completion of Kimmerfields will create a sustainable source of private sector investment and employment for the site and for the surrounding area.
Improving The Environment
Transportation has been an important consideration in the development of the masterplan, with the removal of Fleming Way and the Whalebridge roundabout creating a much more pedestrian-friendly road system with access for public transport.
Muse’s design proposals for Kimmerfields will significantly enhance Swindon’s vitality, creating a real 18 hour urban culture that will become a destination of choice for workers, shoppers and families.
